    Happenings

    CCMS Spotlight

A select group of 7th, and 8th grade Magnet students became members of the Hippocrates Circle this year and took their first field trip on Thursday, September 27th to Kaiser Medical Center in Woodland Hills. They had a rare opportunity to train in Kaiser's Simulation Center where doctors, nurses and other caregivers practice life-saving skills and decision making in a simulated environment. Each student received a stethoscope and was trained to use it to detect an irregular heart beat in a simulated patient and to identify various breathing irregularities.
The students also participated in a seminar on medical ethics in which they discussed in depth some of the life and death ethical challenges that doctors can face.
In another session, Magnet students took part in a "hands on" experiment in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Students were "contaminated" by having a simulated contagion applied to their hands and they were then told to wash it off. After carefully washing, the students' hands were inspected under ultraviolet light and they were shocked to realize that they were still contaminated!

    About Us

Academics: All students participate in rigorous, a quality curriculum that is culturally relevant, individualized, promotes literacy, and linked to the Common Core. Technology is infused into students’ academic experience whenever possible and used to assist in extending content.

Parent Opportunities: Parents are encouraged to join the many opportunities we have; ELAC Advisory Committee, CEAC Title 1 Council, School Site Council, SAS Pa rent Representatives, Booster Club, Back to School Night, Open House, and PHBAO Parent Conferences. Our onsite Parent Center provides a nurturing place for families and the community to come together to increase student achievement and provide adult learning opportunities.

Community Partnerships: Community based partnerships provide students and families the opportunity to unite for improved student achievement, to provide social services, and to offer personal development opportunities. We currently work alongside; CSUN Neighborhood Partners in Action, Kaiser Permanente Hippocrates Circle , Northridge Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation, Pennies for Patients —Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the LAUSD School Based Clinic. We realize that the biggest differences are made when we all work together to improve our community. (Read More)
